Not everyone has completely given up on wood siding, as many people still use cypress siding instead of newer metal siding. Using cypress seems like a very viable alternative, as it can be used for rustic and traditional homes by matching these styles effortlessly.

There are several benefits to using cypress lumber for siding. Cypress is very inexpensive compared with other types of siding. You can get it for about $2 for every linear foot (you may even find discounted cypress siding for sale, while aluminum siding can cost about $3 per square foot and steel siding can cost up to 7 or 8 dollars per square foot. Your cypress siding installation is naturally resistant to rotting, moisture, and insect damage. Like metal siding, it can be painted to match the look of your home. It’s also ecofriendly, as cypress is a renewable product and more cypress can just be grown.

The problem with cypress, however, is that it is still wood, and therefore subject to the kind of damage typically endures. It is not resistant like metal siding, and it is more likely to be damaged by woodpeckers than metal. Its natural oils also dry up as it ages, which reduces its resistance to insect damage.

If you want the look of cypress, you can buy cypress vinyl siding. It has the cypress look but without the cypress disadvantages. However, if you don’t mind the inconvenience, then you can buy cypress siding and just replace it when it becomes damaged.
