Hylozoic Ground by architect and sculptor Philip Beesley (PBAI / University of Waterloo) was selected through a national juried competition to represent Canada at the 2010 Venice Biennale in Architecture. The Venice Biennale in Architecture is the single most important and prestigious international event in contemporary architecture.
Hylozoism is the ancient belief that all matter has life. Hylozoic Ground is an immersive, interactive environment that moves and breathes around its viewers. This environment can ‘feel’ and ‘care’. Next-generation artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, and interactive technology create an environment that is nearly alive.
Hylozoic Ground is part of the Hylozoic Soil series, which has already received unprecedented press and global awards. Hylozoic Ground offers a rare glimpse of tomorrow’s architecture. Hylozoic Ground promises to be the most memorable installation in Venice this year.
